Here’s something you won’t read on most therapist bios: I flunked out of high school. Got my GED. Didn’t start college until I was nearly 25. And when I eventually chose psychology as my major — out of nowhere, never having taken a class or been to therapy — I had no idea I was adopted, or that my biological father had studied the exact same thing. Some callings find you whether you’re ready or not.

What I do know is this: I came to this work not from a place of having it all figured out, but from a place of knowing what it feels like to be lost. To struggle. To feel like everyone else got a manual for life that you somehow missed. That personal history shapes everything about how I work.

My Approach

I’m not the kind of therapist who sits back and nods while you talk. I’m an active participant in your work. I’ll listen carefully — but I’ll also ask you the hard questions, offer real feedback, and occasionally tell a bad joke when things get too heavy. Therapy should move you forward, not just give you a place to vent.

My approach is practical and solution-focused. I believe in understanding where patterns come from — but I’m more interested in helping you change them. I draw from multiple evidence-based schools of thought, which means I adapt to what works for you rather than fitting you into a single rigid framework.

After 30 years and thousands of hours in the room with real people facing real problems, I’ve learned that most people already know something is wrong. What they need is someone who can help them see it clearly, understand it fully, and do something about it.

Why Couples & Relationships

Relationships are where most of our deepest pain — and deepest joy — lives. I’ve spent the majority of my career working with couples and individuals on the full range of relationship challenges: communication breakdowns, affairs, disconnection, anger, the slow drift that happens when life gets complicated.

I’ve trained extensively in the three major schools of couples therapy and have logged well over 10,000 hours working with couples. I know what works — and equally importantly, I know what doesn’t.

A Note to Men

If you’re a man reading this and you’re skeptical about therapy — I get it. I was too. The idea of sitting across from someone and talking about your feelings doesn’t exactly sound like a productive use of time.

But here’s what I’ve found after three decades of working with men: the ones who come in skeptical often make the most progress, because they’re not interested in just talking — they want to solve the problem. That’s exactly how I work. Come in skeptical. Leave with results.
