Therapy can help when you’re feeling…

Disconnected.

You’re present for everything — work, family, the routine — but somewhere along the way you stopped actually being there. You go through the motions and nobody notices. Sometimes you’re not sure you do either.

Running on fumes.

You’ve been pushing through for so long it’s become the only gear you know. Tired but wired. Busy but going nowhere. The tank is empty and you keep going anyway.

Angry.

Not the explosive kind — or maybe sometimes that too. More like a low-level irritation that’s always just below the surface. Something’s wrong and you can’t quite name it, which makes it worse.

Restless.

You’ve built the life you were supposed to want. Good career, family, stability. So why does it feel like something’s missing? Like there should be more to it than this?

Checked out.

From your relationship, your work, yourself. Not dramatically — just gradually. Like the volume got turned down on everything and you can’t find the remote.

Active, Engaged Psychotherapy for Men in Bethesda, MD

Hi, I’m Dr. Joe James. My approach to therapy with men is direct, practical, and focused on insight that leads to real change — not insight for its own sake, but the kind that actually gets you somewhere.

Men come to me for all kinds of reasons — a relationship that’s struggling, a career that’s lost its meaning, anger that keeps getting in the way, a feeling they can’t quite shake. Some are very much in touch with what’s going on. Others aren’t so sure what the hell is going on. But almost all of them share one thing — a sense that it could be better than this.

We start where you are, with what’s actually happening in your life right now. I’ll ask you hard questions. I’ll provide you with feedback and support. I’ll tell you the occasional bad joke because sometimes we all get a little too serious and lose perspective.

The work isn’t always comfortable. But it moves.
