How I Can Help
Individual Therapy
Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, or simply feeling stuck — individual therapy gives you a dedicated space to understand what’s happening and do something about it.
Couples Counseling
When communication breaks down and distance grows, couples counseling helps you understand each other better and rebuild something stronger. Whether you’re in crisis or just off course.
Anger Management
Anger is rarely just anger. When it’s getting in the way — at work, at home, in your relationships — therapy can help you understand what’s underneath it and respond differently.
Men's Therapy
Direct, practical therapy for men who are ready to do something about what’s going on. Whether you can name it or not.
Meet Dr. Joe
I’m a licensed psychologist with over 30 years of experience helping individuals, couples, and men in Bethesda, MD and throughout the Washington DC area. My approach is direct, practical, and focused on real change — not just insight for its own sake. I’ve been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Good Housekeeping, CBS MarketWatch, and The Daily Record.

Frequently Asked Questions
If something is getting in the way of your life — your relationships, your work, your ability to feel like yourself — that’s usually enough of a reason. You don’t need to be in crisis. Most people who come to therapy wish they’d come sooner.
We talk. I’ll ask you what’s going on, what’s been getting in the way, and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. It’s a conversation, not an intake form. By the end we’ll both have a clearer picture of what we’re working with.
Yes. I offer both in-person sessions in Bethesda, MD and virtual sessions throughout Maryland. Virtual therapy works well for most people and makes scheduling significantly easier.
I am an out-of-network provider. Many insurance plans offer partial reimbursement for out-of-network mental health services — I can provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance company. Contact me to discuss fees and options.
It depends on what you’re working on. Some people come for a focused period — six months to a year — to address a specific issue. Others find ongoing therapy valuable over a longer period. We’ll talk about what makes sense for you.
